Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice begin work building The Ark

Tsunami Axis is delighted to be involved in the amazing Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice Building. All services for The Ark project will be provided pro bono.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice provides clinical, practical and emotional support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families living in North and Central London and Hertsmere. At the moment this means providing Hospice-at-Home support to over 160 children with no children’s hospice building, with many spending large amounts of time in hospital beds.

Which is why construction has begun on ‘The Ark’, a purpose built hospice where children and families can spend their precious moments. Based in Barnet on green-belt land The Ark will be built on a 7.5 hectare plot of land and is designed to encourage engagement with the local landscape, with a light filled central atrium and glazed entrances to the building. The new hospice building will be 2,200 meters squared allowing onsite care for 450 children with expert end of life care, respite support, essential therapies and activities for the children and their families.

To realise this monumental dream many of the industry’s biggest players have come together, donating their time and resources to the cause. 8build was appointed as the main contractor with Gensler, Squire and Partners, Jones Lang LaSalle, Stellar Property Group, Ramboll and HOK providing their services pro bono in most cases.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice has begun construction on The Ark with the ground breaking taking place on 26th September.

Samantha Cameron Spoke at the event saying “It’s an honour to meet with Noah’s Ark children and families today, some of whom will benefit greatly from using The Ark, and some, sadly, who have already said goodbye to their treasured children…When my son Ivan died we were devastated, and we will always remain so.”

“The Ark will provide a peaceful place in which to take care of children and their families as they face death, but it will also be an environment for children, their siblings and parents to enjoy life and make magical memories together.”
