We were approached by one of our suppliers, iWall, about working on a very special project. They asked us if we had any furniture for an educational area in The Curve Community Centre. The centre aims to help the community affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy. At first, we raided our warehouses to see what we could pull together but we wanted to do more.
The Grenfell Tower tragedy is still causing a stir across the world. As often as people talk about it, it is also dismissed. For such an important project in the North Kensington area of London, we were happy to help and we wanted to do the best we could.
We were happy to provide a full ergonomic desking solution for the Opportunities and Learning hub. This included Herman Miller Mirra 2 task chairs and Abak Environments workstations. We also added power modules, desk mats and cable management. Alongisde the desking, the centre of the space allowed for a little more. So we added a Herman Miller Sense bench, Brunner meeting chairs, a Buzzispace acoustic hanging grid and some Quinze & Milan foam blocks to add a touch of creativity. We hope this set up, alongside the other people and companies who kindly donated their time and effort, helps the users of the centre when they work there.
The community centre’s educational area was officially opened on Friday 3 May. The hub allows users to access training, complete exams and certificates and apply for jobs.
The Campus Zone has been created on a zero budget utilising the skills and commitment of a range of local companies. The students of nearby Kensington and Chelsea College are the interior designers. Tsunami Axis worked with these students through social enterprise ‘ConnecMe2’ in order to help them create the great space they designed.
As the 2nd year anniversary of the tragedy approaches, we will be thinking of all affected and hope this goes some way to helping everyone move forward and feel supported.
