Recent expansion of the Celonis headquarters in Munich, designed by architects Gensler, marks a significant milestone for the German data processing firm. In this project, Tsunami Axis was appointed to help Celonis fulfil its vision of a collaborative and sustainable workspace, reflecting the company’s dynamic growth and environmental goals.
Redesign and Expansion
In addition to taking on three new floors, the existing floors were also redesigned to allow for more collaborative areas, larger meeting rooms, a state-of-the-art training facility, and dedicated executive spaces. Dominated by a monochromatic colour scheme of white, black, and grey, the environment feels clean and sophisticated. Industrial materials like concrete blocks and metal add a raw, unfinished look, while grid patterns on the walls and open concrete partitions contribute to a sense of order and structure. White tables and chairs with perforated backs emphasize simplicity and efficiency. The lightweight, mobile furniture, with tables on wheels, enhances flexibility and adaptability in the workspace.
Reuse Initiatives
A key aspect of this project was ensuring we aligned our solutions with Celonis’s long-term Net Zero aspirations. We were able to assist in several areas, including through our Design for Reuse program. At the beginning of the project, we conducted a thorough survey to identify reusable furniture items, including desks, task chairs, and credenzas. These were carefully stored and reinstalled with the assistance of our D&I partner in Munich.
Any unused furniture was offered to Celonis employees, aligning with the project’s zero-to-landfill policy. This initiative minimised waste and empowered Celonis staff to contribute to the sustainability goals of the project.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is a cornerstone of our daily operations, which means regular auditing of our supply chains and partnering with brands who share our environmental commitment. Furniture for Celonis’s new floors, such as COR’s Dropbench, demonstrate sustainability credentials like the Blue Angel (Blauer Engel) and Greenguard Gold certifications. The Flokk’s Mickey stool, one of the key pieces that tied Gensler’s vision together, is designed for durability and ease of disassembly, ensuring long-term use and easy maintenance.
