Charles Russell Speechlys embarked on a transformation of its London office to align its workspace with its evolving brand identity and client-focused approach. Seeking a balance between luxury, functionality, and sustainability, it engaged us to help realise its vision, building on initial mock-up spaces developed in 2022. This collaboration highlights our ability to provide tailored solutions that align with our clients’ evolving needs and brand vision.
A New Identity for Charles Russell Speechlys
The objective of the London office refurbishment was to align the workspace with its rebranding efforts and create a sophisticated, client-focused environment. Working closely with its team and Sheppard Robson, we provided guidance on how to translate its rebranding vision into a practical, high-end workplace. Our approach included workshops, detailed consultations, and showroom visits to ensure every design element met the client’s exacting standards.
The transformation introduced a hospitality-inspired design, replacing traditional corporate aesthetics with a luxury hotel feel. Central to this were our meticulously selected furnishings. By incorporating elements such as rich fabrics, high-quality finishes, and contemporary furniture, we ensured that the workspace was not only visually striking but also conducive to productivity and collaboration.
Designed for Connection
The seventh floor was reimagined as a dedicated client space, incorporating a business lounge and private dining areas to elevate the client experience. These spaces were designed to provide a welcoming, high-end atmosphere for client interactions, aligning seamlessly with the firm’s rebranding objectives. The refined furnishings and bespoke layouts reflect its focus on offering a more personalised and hospitality-inspired experience for its visitors. Our team provided expertise in layout optimisation and the selection of statement furniture to balance luxury and functionality. Minotti Dylan sofas with bespoke cushions and Boss Design pods, tailored for efficient space utilisation, reflect this attention to detail. We worked with the client to carefully curate dining areas, featuring Gubi Beetle chairs and Workbench tables with intricate fluted detailing, to create a refined yet welcoming atmosphere.
Enhancing Functionality
Key to the refurbishment was creating a workspace that fosters collaboration, adaptability, and sustainability. Cellular offices were converted into open-plan layouts, while maintaining options for privacy through phone booths and focused meeting spaces. Central tea points and work cafés were introduced on each floor, offering informal meeting spaces that encourage interaction and connection.
A standout aspect of the project was the strategic repurposing of existing furniture, led by Project Lead Katy Smith. Her extensive experience in furniture refurbishment allowed her to identify opportunities to retain and upgrade the client’s existing meeting tables by adding new tops, effectively extending their lifecycle while achieving a high-end finish. Katy’s hands-on guidance throughout the process ensured that sustainability objectives were met without compromising on quality or aesthetics.
Sustainable Solutions
Sustainability remained a crucial element throughout. Existing Interstuhl task chairs were retained, and additional opportunities to refurbish and repurpose furniture were implemented. For example, meeting tables on level eight were upgraded, while Bisley planters and storage units were used to efficiently define spaces. Seating and café furniture were also recovered and reused, ensuring the project upheld our commitment to sustainable practices.

Our longstanding relationship with Charles Russell Speechlys allowed us to bring deep insight and tailored solutions to this project. Leveraging strong partnerships with manufacturers such as Workbench, Brunner, &Tradition, and Herman Miller, we delivered bespoke furniture and layouts designed to meet the client’s specific requirements.
For example, Herman Miller’s Nevi sit-stand desks were chosen for their ergonomic benefits in open-plan areas, while Muuto’s modular sofas and Hay coffee tables added a contemporary touch to breakout spaces. Workbench delivered custom tables and shelving, with shorter lead times facilitated by our established collaboration.
