Sumitomo Corporation Europe Limited embarked on a transformative refurbishment of its London headquarters at Vintners Place, located on the bank of the River Thames. The 45,000 sq ft space was reimagined to deliver a high-end, collaborative environment that would not only serve as a flagship workplace but also reflect their commitment to sustainability, employee well-being, and innovation.
Translating Vision into Reality
The project was led by DMG Workplace, who designed the space to reflect Sumitomo’s ambition for an office of the future. As their trusted furniture consultant, we worked closely with DMG Workplace and Grigoriou Interiors to ensure that the design was supported with practical and sustainable furniture solutions tailored to their needs.
Sustainability at the Heart of the Design
Achieving SKA Gold accreditation was a cornerstone of this project, and DMG Workplace’s design approach prioritised sustainability at every stage. Our role involved providing extensive documentation to support these goals, ensuring that all furniture selections aligned with strict environmental standards. With an emphasis on products offering high recyclability, certifications, and enduring quality, we worked with manufacturers such as Boss, Spacestor, Flokk, Carl Hansen & Søn, and Orangebox to curate a collection that seamlessly combined sustainability with elegance.
Delivering Elegance and Functionality
The furniture package was selected to enhance DMG Workplace’s contemporary design, ensuring both style and usability. Davison Highley’s Reed Chairs, upholstered in rich Malone Velvet Plus, brought an elevated sense of luxury to the waiting areas. In the lounges, Allermuir coffee tables with black timber finishes provided a sophisticated focal point. For the workspaces, Elite height-adjustable desks with nanotech surfaces and black graphite finishes delivered ergonomic functionality in keeping with the office’s refined aesthetic. These pieces were meticulously chosen to align with the overall design vision while supporting employee productivity and comfort.
Prioritising Employee Well-Being
A key aspect of DMG Workplace’s design philosophy was the integration of well-being features. A dedicated wellness room was created to provide employees with a tranquil retreat for relaxation. This carefully designed space included a starry-sky ceiling, soft seating, and organic finishes to foster mindfulness and balance. Thoughtful lighting was implemented across the entire office, further enhancing the environment and creating an atmosphere that supports both focus and creativity.
A Collaborative Triumph
This project represents the successful integration of DMG Workplace’s design expertise, our furniture consultancy, and Grigoriou Interiors’ sustainability leadership. By partnering closely with Sumitomo and our project collaborators, we were able to deliver a workspace that reflects the client’s forward-thinking ethos while meeting the highest standards of environmental responsibility.
