To support long-term growth in Scotland and strengthen its ability to attract and retain talent, BlackRock, a global wealth management firm, relocated to a new 140,000 sq ft workplace in Edinburgh, significantly increasing its footprint and rethinking how the workplace supports people and performance.
The Design Vision
Designed by MLA, the new office delivers a calm, contemporary environment with quality and longevity at its core. The workplace balances collaboration, focus, and wellbeing, with amenities including restaurants, a Starbucks, and dedicated wellness spaces. Inclusivity was embedded throughout the design, with each floor providing quiet rooms, faith rooms, and mother’s rooms to support a diverse workforce and varied working styles.
Our Role
As furniture partner, our local Scotland team successfully managed the furniture procurement, project management, storage, delivery, and installation, working closely with the wider project team to translate design intent into a high-performing workplace
Overcoming Complexities
The site presented complex logistical challenges. Located on a residential cul-de-sac, the project required over 80 truck deliveries into a live environment. Through detailed planning, close coordination with contractors, and a tightly managed programme, deliveries and installation were sequenced efficiently, ensuring the project was completed on time.
Collaboration at the Core
Early collaboration was central to success. MillerKnoll supported the project through virtual workshops connecting UK consultants with US design teams, providing specialist insight into bespoke solutions and integrations. We also worked with ProAV to equip over 70 meeting rooms with integrated technology, enabling seamless collaboration.
Bespoke furniture elements – including meeting and boardroom tables and marble-top credenzas – were delivered in collaboration with MillerKnoll, Brunner, Frovi, Naughtone, and New Design Group, with finishes refined alongside MLA to align with the design vision.
Recognised Excellence
A strong on-site project management presence allowed changes to be implemented in real time. The client praised our “collaborative approach to maintain strong communication with all parties throughout design, procurement, project delivery and beyond” – resulting in a future-ready workplace delivered to a top specification.
This project has been recognised at the BCO Scotland Awards 2026 in the Corporate Workplace category.
