177 Bothwell Street showcases Virgin Money’s commitment to evolving workstyles and embracing sustainable practices in 2024. Collaborating closely with Form Design, we delivered a dynamic space that enhances in-office collaboration and fosters a sense of community.
Driving Sustainability
Touted as one of the most sustainable office buildings in Glasgow, 177 Bothwell Street draws energy from the Blantyre Muir Wind Farm in South Lanarkshire and targets an EPC rating of A and BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard. In line with Virgin Money’s environmental goals, we developed a furniture procurement strategy that maximises impact for both users and the environment.
Extending Lifecycles
The cornerstone of any sustainability strategy is longevity, which begins with evaluating existing furniture for reuse. Our audit identified 50 pieces from ØRN and Ocee & Four Design, creating a significant carbon saving for this project and extending the life of existing furniture. For new pieces, we considered both the material composition and the proximity of suppliers. Locally sourced fabrics, desks, and task chairs significantly reduced the project’s overall CO2 transportation emissions.
Flexible Workplace Solutions
Working closely with the team at Form Design, we created bespoke solutions to facilitate Virgin Money’s highly collaborative workspace vision. This included custom boardroom tables designed to enhance user experience. Additionally, multiple spaces throughout the building are designed for hybrid use, such as the Town Hall, which serves as a primary gathering point and doubles as a training and yoga space. These areas are furnished with loose mobile tables and chairs, ensuring adaptability for various functions.
